| These masks borrow from the genius of mask makers over the last five hundred years, from the anonymous to Sartori, Fava, Diefenbacher and Newman. They retain most of the "classical" conventions of character, while sneaking in color and style that give them play for uninitiated audiences. They are rigid enough to maintain a mask integrity, while being flexible enough to conform to different faces. |
|
| This family of masks is also
aimed at bringing equality to women in the masked rolls of commedia.
There is a Pantalona, and a Columbina or Arlechina mask. The male
characters play well on woman's faces.
This set of masks is the result of Bruce's
18 years of teaching mask performance and mask making at the Dell'
Arte School of Physical Theatre. They have been used in theatres
and universities around the country with excellent results.
